Benefits of Membership:

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & EDUCATION: NYSA has established a program of timely educational programs and seminars to increase professional skills, knowledge, and effectiveness. Recent subjects have included new revisions to the N.Y.C. Building Code and new Department of Buildings procedures, zoning requirements and preparation for the Architectural Licensing Exam.

MEETINGS: Membership meetings and other activities offer an opportunity to network exchange ideas, and meet other professionals. Guest speakers address items of interest to the practitioner, and from time to time, manufacturers demonstrate the latest technologies on products such as CAD software.

MEMBERSHIP DUES: The NYSA is one of the constituent organizations that make up the Architects Council of New York City (ACNYC), publisher of the Memo Pad. By joining the NYSA, you are entitled to receive discounts on publications and seminars offered by both the NYSA and the ACNYC.

PUBLICATIONS: All members receive SIGNIFICANT DISCOUNTS on publications of the NYSA and the Architects Council of NYC.

Manual New York Building Laws: Now in its 65th edition, this publication includes the NYC Building Code, Reference Standards, Multiple Dwelling Laws, Housing Maintenance Code, and more. For the first time anywhere, our 1990 Manual has references by means of footnotes and editor's notes directing your attention to pertinent issuance's from the NYC Department of Buildings such as directives, memorandums, departmental memos, and policy and procedure notices.

Building Code Amendments: To keep your Manual current, we offer a subscription service on a yearly basis. The 1990 Manual is expected to remain on the market for approximately 3 years, therefore the amendments are vital to keep your code up-to-date.

RESOURCE & INFORMATION: Gain access to a network of professionals whom you can contact to assist you with product information, Building Department procedures, contractor referral, etc.

LIBRARY: We maintain a small technical library which includes building codes from the beginning of the century and various publications for your review.

LOBBYING EFFORTS AND MEMBERSHIP IN THE ARCHITECTS COUNCIL OF NYC: NYSA represent you directly and through the Architects Council at the legislative offices in Albany and City Council by supporting favorable legislation and lobbying against legislation perceived as harmful to architect. We are currently in favor of a statewide ten year statute of limitations for third parties.

LITIGATION MONITORING: We monitor and advise you of court cases which may have an impact on architectural practice and construction in New York City.

COMMUNICATION & LIAISON: We maintain open communications with the Building Department and with interprofessional organizations in the construction industry, such as the Building Industry Advisory Council. We also participate in the Ad Hoc Committee of the Building Department, which has been overseeing the new computer filing system and procedures for the Department.

NYSA BULLETIN: The BULLETIN, the Society's newsletter, is published by-monthly. It provides timely and practical information on issues and activities in the Society and the profession at large. This publication also acts as a showcase for members' work, and we welcome submissions and/or photographs and articles for inclusion.

ANNUAL AWARDS DINNER: Join us at this social event held in late November or early December where we honor outstanding achievers in our industry. The Awards program has included the Sidney L. Strauss Award, the Distinguished Service Award, a Special Award for Lifetime Achievement, and an Honorary Membership Award.

MID-SUMMER EVENT: This popular social gathering in mid-June is enjoyed by our members. The Mid-Summer Event is held at historic buildings or even aboard a dinner cruise ship.

The NYSA is dedicated to serving you. We are ready to assist you in your daily operations and offer, for a modest fee, the use of our conference room during working hours for prearranged meetings.

We need your assistance in moving the NYSA forward toward greater achievement and recognition. Your membership is needed to strengthen our unified voice in lobbying efforts on City and State legislative matters that affect our profession and our industry.
